Women's Tennis Wins Numerous AAC Awards

Waleska, Ga.- The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) announced the end-of-the-year awards for women's tennis on Thursday. Tennessee Wesleyan had many student-athletes be honored with awards.

Olivia Alcala was named the AAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Alcala is the program's first AAC Player of the Year winner. Alcala was named to the All-AAC First Team as well as to the All-Freshman Team.

For the first time in his coaching career, Francisco Gallardo was named the Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.

Joining Alcala on the All-AAC First Team were Josefa Fernandez and Astrid Staksrud.

Natacha Mesa and Mercedes Chasset were named members of the All-AAC Second Team.

Staksrud was the team's representative on the AAC Champions of Character Team. To be named to the Champions of Character Team, a player must exhibit the NAIA's Five Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.

Mesa and Staksrud earned a spot on the AAC All-Academic Team. To earn a spot on the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be in sophomore in academic standing and maintain a 3.25 grade-point average.
