No. 13 seed Women's Tennis Blanks No. 20 seed Williams Woods at NAIA Tournament

Mobile, Ala.- The women's tennis team started play in the 2023 NAIA Women's Tennis Championship Tournament on Tuesday. The team was seeded No. 13 in their third straight tournament appearance. In their first round match, the team faced the No. 20 seed, Williams Woods University Lady Owls. The matches at the national tournament are played in a first-to-four format.

Tennessee Wesleyan took the doubles point. Natacha Mesa and Mercedes Chasset won the No. 2 doubles 6-0 while Astrid Staksrud and Julieta Beltramino won the No. 3 doubles match 6-4 to give the team a 1-0 lead heading into the singles.

In the singles, Chasset, Raquel Canadas and, Staksrud gave the team the match win as they won all their singles matches. Chasset won the No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0, Canadas won the No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-1 and Staksrud took the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-2 to give the team the 4-0 win. 

The win advanced the Lady Bulldogs (13-2) to the second round of the tournament, a spot they reached for the third time in a row. Waiting for the team in the second round is No. 4 seeded Louiana State University Alexandria. The match is set to be played on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., EST.
