No. 5 Women's Tennis Cruise Against (RV) Brenau

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's tennis team, ranked No. 5 in the NAIA, had two openers in one match on Wednesday. The team played both their home opener and Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opener against the Brenau University Golden Tigers.

The first point of the contest went to the Lady Bulldogs. The team won all the doubles matches as Olivia Alcala and Laia Berne won the No. 1 doubles 6-1, Mercedes Chasset and Julia Richardet won the No. 2 doubles match 6-3 and Astrid Staksrud and Ivet Prat won the No. 3 doubles match 6-2, giving the team a 1-0 advantage. The points kept climbing for TWU in the singles too.

The home squad won all the singles matches except for one. Chasset took home the win in the No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-3 while Prat won the No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-4. Raquel Canadas made quick work in the No. 4 singles competition, winning 6-1, 6-0 to go along with a win in the No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-1 by Richardet. Paula Cigarran gave the team six points when she won the No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-4. A battle in the No. 1 singles spot featuring Josefa Fernandez went to Brenau in a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-7) score, making the final score of the match 6-1 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.

Tennessee Wesleyan (2-2, 1-0 AAC) will go on the road on Thursday for an AAC match against Johnson University. The match is set for a 2:30 p.m. start time.
