No. 6 Women's Tennis Pounce Truett McConnell
ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's tennis team, ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, was back on their home court on Sunday. The team hosted the Truett McConnell University Lady Bears in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
The first point of the contest went to the Lady Bulldogs. The team won all the doubles matches as Olivia Alcala and Laia Berne won the No. 1 doubles 6-1, Julia Richardet and Mercedes Chasset used an identical 6-1 score to win the No. 2 doubles match while a 6-0 score gave Astrid Staksrud and Ivet Prat the win in the No. 3 doubles match. The wins gave the team a 1-0 lead.
In the singles matches, TWU was the winner of them all. Alcala won the No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 while Josefa Fernandez took the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-2. Paula Cigarran used a 6-2, 6-3 score to win singles No. 3 and Richardet won the No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0. Julieta Beltramino won the No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-2 and Kylee Hockman closed out the 7-0 sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 6 singles.
The team will play next in the inaugural Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase on Saturday. The first match for the Lady Bulldogs (6-2, 5-0 AAC) will be against NCAA Division II opponent University of North Georgia. The match is being played at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., at 12:00 p.m.
