No. 6 Women's Tennis Wins Battle Against NCAA Division II Columbus State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The women's tennis team played a second match at the Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase on Sunday. The sixth-ranked team played another top ten team from NCAA Division II, the No. 10 Columbus State University Lady Cougars. 

The match was played in the clinch format with the winner being decided as the first team to reach four points.

Tennessee Wesleyan won the doubles point. Olivia Alcala and Laia Berne won the No. 1 doubles match 6-3 while Mercedes Chasset and Julia Richardet won the No. 2 doubles match 6-2. The two wins gave the team a 1-0 lead. 

The singles went back and forth, with the score eventually reaching a 3-3 tie. Columbus State took three of the singles matches to put the match in a 3-3 tie  as Chasset won the No. 2 singles 6-4, 4-6, [12-10] and Ivet Prat won the No. 4 singles match 7-5, 6-2. Raquel Canadas played the difference in the match, clinching the win for TWU with a 2-6, 7-5, [12-10] win in the No. 5 singles, giving the team a 4-3 victory.

The schedule keeps the Lady Bulldogs (7-3) at the Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase for a match on Wednesday. The team will face a third NCAA Division II opponent, Drury University.
