Women's Tennis Opens AAC Tournament with Win

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament began on Thursday. The women's tennis team, as virtue of winning the 2024 AAC Regular Season Title, entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed. Their opening round match was against the No. 8 seed, the Truett McConnell University Lady Bears.

The tournament match was played first to clinch, meaning the first team to four points won the match.

Tennessee Wesleyan put themselves in the driver's seat early by winning the doubles point. Wins by Olivia Alcala and Laia Berne in the No. 1 doubles match 6-2 and Astrid Staksrud and Ivet Prat in the No. 3 doubles match 6-0 helped the team clinch the doubles point.

Three 6-0, 6-0 wins in the singles matches helped the Lady Bulldogs win the match. Alcala (No. 1 singles), Berne (No. 3 singles), and Chasset (No. 4 singles) all used the aforementioned score to clinch the match 4-0 for the team.

The win moved the team's record to 15-3 overall. The team moves on to the semifinal round of the tournament on Friday.
