Women's Tennis Serves Up AAC Championship Win

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- A championship was on the line for the women's tennis program on Saturday. The No. 1 seeded Lady Bulldogs advanced to the championship match of the 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, where they faced the No. 2 seed in the tournament, the Union College Lady Bulldogs.

The first two doubles matches to finish saw the each team win one. The third doubles match was won by Tennessee Wesleyan, giving them a 1-0 lead. Olivia Alcala and Laia Berne took the No. 1 doubles by a 6-2 score while Mercedes Chasset and Julia Richardet won the No. 2 doubles match 6-1.

The first four singles matches to finish were split between the two teams. Berne won the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 7-5 and Ivet Prat took the No. 5 singles match 6-1, 7-6 to give the team a 3-2 advantage overall. The match was clinched for the top-seeded Lady Bulldogs by Raquel Canadas, who won the No. 6 singles 6-2, 7-5, giving the team a 4-2 win. This is the first AAC Tournament Title in program history.

Tennessee Wesleyan (15-3) receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament with the win, which is set for May 14-18 in Mobile, Ala.
