Women's Tennis Collects AAC Awards

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's tennis team took home a collection of awards from the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) at the end of the season. The awards were voted on by the coaches of the conference.

Olivia Alcala was named the Women's Tennis Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Alcala was the first women's tennis player to earn the Women's Tennis Player of the Year award in 2023. Alcala did not lose a set while going undefeated in conference play. Alcala only dropped one doubles match during the conference season while playing in the No. 1 doubles position. 

Laia Berne took home the Freshman of the Year award. Berne did not lose a singles match during conference play in 2024.

Mercedes Chasset and Josefa Fernandez joined Alcala and Berne on the All-AAC First Team

Being named to the All-AAC Second Team were Raquel Candads, Ivet Prat, and Astrid Staksrud.

Berne, Prat, and Julia Richardet were named to the All-Freshman Team.

Head coach Francisco Gallardo was named the Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season after leading the team to a 9-0 record in the AAC.
