
Women's Tennis Takes Home AAC Awards
WALESKA, Ga.- The end-of-the-year awards for women's tennis were announced by the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) on Thursday. Tennessee Wesleyan had multiple award winners, including the Coach of the Year.
Olivia Alcala, Laia Berne, Mercedes Chasset, and Honoka Tsuji were all named to the All-AAC First Team.
Ivet Prat and Julia Richardet garnered a spot on the All-AAC Second Team.
Earning a spot on the All-Freshman Team was Jenny Gjos.
The team's representative to the Champions of Character Team was Alcala. To be named to the Champions of Character Team, a player must exhibit the NAIA's Five Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.
TWU had eight student-athletes earn a spot on the AAC All-Academic Team, the second-most in the conference. Alcala, Julieta Beltramino, Berne, Chasset, Paula Cigarran, Prat, Richardet, Astrid Staksrud, and Tsuji all earned a spot on the AAC All-Academic Team. To be selected to the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore in academic standing and maintain a 3.25 grade-point average.
After leading the team to a perfect 9-0 record, head coach Francisco Gallardo was named the Coach of the Year. This was the third consecutive season Gallardo won the award.
