Women's Volleyball Drops Road Contest Against Brenau

Gainesville, Ga.- The volleyball team went on the road Friday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). The team faced the Brenau University Golden Tigers.

A kill by Kamari Jackson along with consecutive service aces by Olivia Bolin helped the Lady Bulldogs take a 5-3 lead early in the first set. The lead moved to 7-5 on a Megan Lee and Olivia Miller block assist, then 9-7 on Madison Coffey and Jackson kills. The set took a turn though when Brenau broke a 9-9 tie and scored 12 of the next 16 points. The opponents went on to take the first set 25-14.

Coffey's service ace after Jackson's kill tied the score 2-2 in the second set. Shante Smith and Amya Sutton recorded kills which kept TWU within two points of the lead with the scoreboard reading 6-4. A momentum shift occurred again though as Brenau scored 12 of the following 16 points to take an 18-8 lead. The second set ended with the opponents winning 25-12.

The third set saw the Lady Bulldogs move head 7-3 after a Sutton kill. A kill by Olivia Bolin was not enough to keep Tennessee Wesleyan in the lead though, falling behind 9-8. Unlike the previous set, the Lady Bulldogs kept the set close. After a 9-9 tie, the lead changed seven times while there were ten ties. The final tie of the set was 23-23, broken by a Sutton kill while a block assist by Sutton and Kali Bowie extended the match as TWU won 25-23 to force a fourth set.

The fourth set played out much like the third set. The action was close early on before Brenau took a small lead later in the set. Trailing 16-12, the Lady Bulldogs came back to tie the set 18-18, eventually moving ahead 20-19 on a Smith kill. The opponents did not allow the Lady Bulldogs to extend the match to a fifth set, unfortunately, taking the set 25-21 to win the match 3-1.

Sutton had a career-high 13 kills in the match. Sydney Allen had 15 assists while Megan Thompson had 14 digs, both team-highs in the match.
