Women's Volleyball Unable to Stop Lady Buffaloes

Athens, Tenn.- The volleyball team returned home to begin a three-match home stand on Tuesday. The first match of the home stand came against the Milligan University Lady Buffaloes.

The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest saw the opponents run out to a 5-0 lead. Amya Sutton and Shante Smith gave the team their first two points but the score soon moved to 8-2. A block by Olivia Miller brought the team within five points of the lead, and a few moments later a block by Kamari Jackson brought the Lady Bulldogs within four points of the lead at 12-8. Milligan though scored four straight to double the team's score. Milligan went on to win the first set 25-17.

After falling behind 4-1, TWU battled back to tie the second set 6-6. The set remained close for the next few points as a Megan Thompson service ace brought the team within two points of the lead with the score 14-12. The opponents went ahead by five points over the next few minutes, but the Lady Bulldogs made one more run at the lead. The run was not enough though as Milligan went on to win the set 25-18.

Through the first 10 points of the third set, the score was in a 5-5 tie after a Sutton kill. The set saw two more ties. The final tie was an 8-8 tie which was broken by Milligan, who went on to lead 13-9. Tennessee Wesleyan battled back, using a Sydney Allen service ace and a Madison Coffey kill as a part of a three-point run to cut the deficit to one. The team cut the opponents' lead to one point on two more occasions, but could not turn the lead in their favor as they fell in the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Allen led with 13 assists in the contest while Sutton had a team-high eight kills.
