Volleyball Clipped by Reinhardt

Athens, Tenn.- The volleyball team returned to Athens for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match on Friday. The team hosted the Reinhardt University Lady Eagles.

In the first set, the Lady Bulldogs were not able to find their rhythm on offense. Kamari Jackson tied the set 1-1 with a kill but the Eagles went on a 14-2 run which saw them take a 15-3 advantage. TWU could not overcome the deficit, going on to fall in the first set 25-9.

The second set saw the Lady Bulldogs race out to a 5-1 lead with block solos by Madison Coffey and Shante Smith helping them reach the lead. Back-to-back service aces b Olivia Miller made the lead 10-7 and the set remained close as Megan Lee's kill made the score 16-16. After a kill by Amya Sutton made the score 18-17 in favor of Tennessee Wesleyan, the tide turned in the match as Reinhardt scored three straight points to lead 20-18. The set saw one more tie at 20-20 but Reinhardt broke the tie and went on to take the set 25-21.

Through the first 11 points of the third set, the Lady Eagles held a 6-5 advantage after a Smith kill. The opponents went on a 8-3 run over the next few segments of the match to take a 14-8 advantage. Points from Smith, Miller, and Sutton were not enough to bring the team back, falling in the third set 25-14 and the match 3-0.

Smith led the offense with seven kills.
