
Volleyball Sweeps Columbia on Senior Day
Athens, Tenn.- The volleyball team celebrated Senior Day Saturday with a sweep against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Columbia College. TWU honored their four seniors before beginning the three-set match.
The Lady Bulldogs began set one with a six-point run which included two kills from Amya Sutton, an Olivia Miller block, and a service ace by Megan Lee to put them ahead 7-2. A sequence of serves by Olivia Bolin, which included two service aces, pushed their advantage to 12-3. TWU continued to lengthen their lead with a Miller block, a service ace from Sutton, and a Megan Tracy kill. The final points of the set came from back-to-back service aces by Sutton to give them a 25-16 set one win.
Set two began with an early 6-0 lead for the Koalas, but Tennessee Wesleyan did not stay down long. A service error followed by a Sutton block and kill gave the Bulldogs their first points of the set. Moments later, they took an 8-7 lead with a service ace from Megan Thompson and a Shante Smith kill. Kills and a service ace from Sutton pushed their lead further and Sutton's final kill in set two gave TWU a 25-15 win to take a 2-0 lead into the third set.
In the third set, the Lady Bulldogs took a 4-1 lead with a service ace from Sydney Allen and kills from Tacy and Smith. Blocks from Lee and a kill and service ace from Sutton made the score 13-5. As the match progressed, the score moved to 22-13. The final points of the match came on a Thompson service ace and a Smith kill, giving the team a 25-15 set win and a 3-0 match victory.
Sutton led the team with 12 kills and six service aces. Allen aided the offense with 12 assists while Thompson held down the defense with eight digs.
Tennessee Wesleyan returns to their home court Tuesday for a conference match against Union College at 6:30 p.m. This match will be a pink-out in support of October's Breast Cancer Awareness month.
