Volleyball Completes Comeback Against Brenau

GAINESVILLE, Ga.- The volleyball team played their second consecutive five-set match on Friday. This time though, the team staged an incredible comeback against the Brenau University Golden Tigerts, fighting back from two sets down to claim a thrilling 3-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory.

Despite two close sets, fell behind early. Breanu won the first two sets of the match 25-23 and 25-18 to put the Lady Bulldogs in a 2-0 hole. 

With their backs against the wall, Tennessee Wesleyan responded with force in the third set. The duo of Amya Sutton and Jia Weathersby led a fierce attack, with Janie Merritt also contributing blocks. The aggressive play put Brenau on the defensive, and the Lady Bulldogs kept the match going with a 25-18 win in the third set.

The fourth set was a back-and-forth thriller, ending in extra points. TWU saw points from Sutton and Shante Smith help the team stay in the match. Brenau fought hard to close out the match, but Tennessee Wesleyan's defense held firm, and they edged Brenau 26-24, forcing a decisive fifth set.

With all the momentum on their side, Tennessee Wesleyan dominated the fifth set, starting strong and never looking back. Morae Owen and Savannah Jones fired off crucial kills, pushing the Lady Bulldogs to a commanding lead. TWU widened the gap in the score, going on to win the fifth set 15-5 to complete the comeback win.

Sutton led the offense with 14 kills while Hibdon had 18 assists in the win.

The win moved the team's record to 6-8 overall and 3-1 in the AAC.
