Volleyball Wins Race to Three Against Pikeville
ATHENS, Tenn.- The volleyball team returned to their home court on Tuesday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). In an intense match, the Lady Bulldogs took down the University of Pikeville Lady Bears in a 3-1.
TWU came out strong in the first set, with standout performances from Shante Smith and Amya Sutton, both delivering key kills. Setter Alley Hibdon kept the offense running smoothly, as TWU dominated Pikeville 25-15 in the opening set.
The second set saw Pikeville push back, winning the second set by a score of 25-18. However, the Lady Bulldogs regrouped and fought back in the third set.
The third set went into extra points, but Tennessee Wesleyan's resilience showed as they edged out Pikeville 27-25. Key plays from Jia Weathersby and Olivia Miller helped the Lady Bulldogs maintain control.
In the fourth and final set, TWU took full control, cruising to a 25-14 victory. Smith and Janie Merritt were pivotal in this dominant performance, closing out the match on a high note and securing the win for TWU.
Sutton led the offense with 17 kills while Smith added 15 kills. Hibdon had 25 assists to go along with 21 assists by Olivia Bolin. Hibdon had a career-high 23 digs in the win.
This was the team's eighth win of the season.
