ATHENS, Tenn.- The volleyball team returned to their home floor on Friday for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match. After defeating the Bryan College Lady Lions earlier this season in a five-set thriller, the Lady Bulldogs swept the season series with a 3-1 win against the conference rival.
Tennessee Wesleyan showed their might in the first set. Fueled by powerful serves from Alley Hibdon and kills from Shante Smith and Amya Sutton, the team won the first set 25-13.
Although Bryan managed a comeback in the second set, taking it 25-23, Tennessee Wesleyan quickly regrouped.
Janie Merritt and Jia Weathersby led the charge in the third set, clinching a 25-19 win with solid blocks and timely kills. In the fourth set, Tennessee Wesleyan maintained their momentum, with Olivia Miller and Talynn Wheeler providing a series of impressive plays. Their strong teamwork and resilience led them to a decisive 25-12 finish, sealing the match victory.
Wheeler had a career-high 21 digs in the win while Sutton led the team with 13 kills. Merritt added 12 kills and Hibdon led the offense with 26 assists.
