
No. 5 Men's Tennis Finishes as Runner-ups at 2025 ITA Men's Team Indoor Championship
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.- A battle took place in the championship match of the 2025 ITA NAIA Men's Team Indoor Championships on Sunday. Unfortunately for the fifth-ranked men's tennis team, they came out on the wrong side of a 4-3 match against the No. 1 ranked Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies.
Tennessee Wesleyan took the first lead of the game by winning the doubles point. Juan Carlos Garcia and Octavio Volpi won the No. 2 doubles 6-2 while Zolio Rios and David Leon used a score og 6-2 to win the No. 3 doubles to give the team the doubles point.
The teams split the first five singles matches to finish. Asier Pascual (No. 5, 6-2, 6-1), and Bolea (No. 6, 6-1, 6-3) won their singles matches to put the match in a 3-3 tie. Volpi battled in the No. 1 singles match but fell in three sets to give the opponents the win.
This is the second consecutive season the Bulldogs have finished as the runner-ups at the indoor championships.
Tennessee Wesleyan (2-1) will open conference play in their home opener on Friday against Johnson University at 2:30 p.m.
