No. 2 Men's Tennis Aces the Bears

ATHENS, Tenn.- After a lengthy absence from the court, the second-ranked men's tennis team saw a day of wins on Saturday. TWU defeated the University of Pikeville Bears 7-0 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match.

To clinch the doubles point, Maceo Simpson and Agustin Gaia (No. 1, 6-2) and Octavio Volpi and Juan Garcia (No. 2, 6-0) were the first to conclude their doubles matches, giving the team the point. David Leon and Zoilo Rios made it a clean sweep with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 doubles.

Things kept rolling for the Bulldogs in the singles matches. Volpi won No. 1 singles 6-1, 7-5, Garcia won No. 2 single 6-2, 6-1, Patricios Gallegos won No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2 while Leon won No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0. The remaining singles saw Asier Pascual win the No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-1 to go along with a No. 6 singles win by Simpson, 6-1, 6-2.

Tennessee Wesleyan improved their record to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the AAC. The team will be back in action on their home court on Sunday for a conference match against SCAD Atlanta. The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
