No. 1 Seed Men's Tennis Advance to AAC Championship

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The men's tennis team returned to the court at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament on Friday. The top-seeded Bulldogs were facing No. 4 Milligan University in the semifinals of the tournament and walked off the court with a 4-0 win.

In the first-to-clinch format, TWU scored the doubles point with wins by Agustin Gaia, Maceo Simpson, Zoilo Rios, and David Leon. Gaia and Simpson won the No. 1 doubles match 6-4 while Rios and Leon won the No. 3 doubles match 6-0.

The remaining points in clinching the match came from the No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles. Octavio Volpi won the No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1 while Juan Carlos Garcia won the No. 2 singles 7-6, 7-4. A 6-2, 6-2 win by Leon was the score to the No. 5 singles and Asier Pascual won the No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 score. 

The win moves the Bulldogs (13-2) to the championship match on Saturday. The team will face the No. 3 seed in the tournament, SCAD Atlanta, at 10:00 a.m.
