Women's Soccer Scores Late to Defeat Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky.- The schedule took the women's soccer team on the road to the University of Pikeville for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest. TWU ended the road trip with a 3-2 win.

In the first half, the Lady Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead. Both of the goals came off the foot of Krista Eik Hardardottir. The first goal for Hardardottir occurred in the 30th minute off an assist by Alexandra Machado. The second happened in the 38th minute, this time off a Valerie Koopman pass. The team went into halftime holding their 2-0 advantage.

Five minutes into the second half, Pikeville cut into the Tennessee Wesleyan lead with a goal. As the game continued to move along with the Lady Bulldogs leading by one, the final result came into question in the 77th minute as Pikeville scored again to tie the score 2-2. Marte Stokseth put the team up for good, scoring a goal four minutes later to give TWU a 3-2 lead they went on to win with. Jenna Gibson had an assist on the game-winner.

Laia Roch Font finished with seven saves in the net.

Up next for the Lady Bulldogs (7-1-2, 7-0-1 AAC) is a second road trip to Kentucky for a conference contest against Union Commonwealth University. The game is set for 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday.
